White Whale
Climb HyMasa, then chase the whale: Upper and Lower Captain Ahab, one way, ledge after ledge back to Kane Creek.
Your timesno timed runs yet
Ride mode times every run on its own: the clock starts when you roll out of the start and stops at the finish, with splits at each marked spot. Leave Ride mode on between laps and it re-arms when you're back at the start. Times stay on this phone.

Know before you go
- Captain Ahab is marked one-way on the BLM Amasa Back map. Ride it only downhill from the HyMasa junction; never climb it.
- HyMasa is the climb. BLM built it so riders do not have to use the Amasa Back 4WD road; expect jeeps on the short road pieces at the start and finish.
- This is expert terrain: big slickrock ledges, rollers and exposure above the Colorado River. Walk what you would not want to crash on.
- Hot and shadeless. Start early, carry plenty of water, and do not ride it wet.
Ride smart
- Water: plan on about 1 L for this ride. There's none on the trail.
- Signal is spotty. Tell someone your route and your time back.
- Emergency: call 911 and say "White Whale ride, parked at Amasa Back Trailhead, Moab, Utah", plus the coordinates from Locate me.
- Wildlife: give horses, burros and anything with horns room, and never feed them.
- Stay on trail. Desert crust and mountain soil take decades to heal.
