Whip It
The quiet west side of Dead Horse Point: Prickly Pair out, the Whiptail rim lap above Shafer Canyon, and Twisted Tree back.
Your timesno timed runs yet
Ride mode times every run on its own: the clock starts when you roll out of the start and stops at the finish, with splits at each marked spot. Leave Ride mode on between laps and it re-arms when you're back at the start. Times stay on this phone.

Know before you go
- Whiptail is ridden north to south here, the way the park suggests, so it mostly descends. It is smooth and fast with a view into Shafer Canyon about 1,000 feet below.
- This loop skips the westernmost third of a mile of Twisted Tree, which the park calls one of the hardest pieces of trail in the system.
- The park rates Prickly Pair and Twisted Tree moderate to difficult, with slickrock and scattered obstacles. Trails are lightly marked; basic route-finding helps.
- Dogs must be leashed. Dismount at any park road crossing (park rule). Cell coverage is spotty.
Ride smart
- Water: plan on about 1.5 L for this ride. There's none on the trail.
- Signal is spotty. Tell someone your route and your time back.
- Emergency: call 911 and say "Whip It ride, parked at Intrepid Trail System Trailhead, Moab, Utah", plus the coordinates from Locate me.
- Wildlife: give horses, burros and anything with horns room, and never feed them.
- Stay on trail. Desert crust and mountain soil take decades to heal.
