Spin Cycle
Warm up on the short Rim Rock loops above Cove Wash, then ride Barrel Roll clockwise around the lava-capped mesa.
Your timesno timed runs yet
Ride mode times every run on its own: the clock starts when you roll out of the start and stops at the finish, with splits at each marked spot. Leave Ride mode on between laps and it re-arms when you're back at the start. Times stay on this phone.

Know before you go
- Santa Clara River Reserve is BLM land and all trails are non-motorized. Black Brush at the same trailhead is hiker and horse only; the route avoids it.
- Barrel Roll goes clockwise here, which puts the trickiest rock moves on descents.
- Mostly rated more difficult by the BLM: rocky lava ledges and a few short steep pitches, but plenty of flowing tread between them.
- Bikes yield to hikers and horses, and the BLM asks you to park only at the designated trailhead.
Ride smart
- Water: plan on about 1.5 L for this ride. There's none on the trail.
- Signal is spotty. Tell someone your route and your time back.
- Emergency: call 911 and say "Spin Cycle ride, parked at Cove Wash Trailhead (Santa Clara River Reserve), St. George, Utah", plus the coordinates from Locate me.
- Wildlife: give horses, burros and anything with horns room, and never feed them.
- Stay on trail. Desert crust and mountain soil take decades to heal.
