Getting there
Park at Exploration Peak Park
9700 S Buffalo Dr, Las Vegas, NV 89178
- Clark County park with restrooms and water. Use the lot off Mountains Edge Pkwy on the west side of the peak; park hours apply.
- Start and finish are the same spot. Follow the cue sheet and the arrows on the map.

Know before you go
- Easy grade, not short: about 12 miles round trip, and the longest stretch is the out-and-back to the Union network.
- Union Around, Thelma and Louise are the green loops on the state's Union Trails map; skip anything signed black.
- The old Union trailhead off south Rainbow has been reported gated with no parking, so this ride starts at Exploration Peak Park instead.
- A few washes are soft; walking one or two is normal.
Ride smart
- Water: plan on about 1.5 L for this ride. There's none on the trail.
- Signal is spotty. Tell someone your route and your time back.
- Emergency: call 911 and say "Soft Pedal ride, parked at Exploration Peak Park, Southwest Valley Edge", plus the coordinates from Locate me.
- Wildlife: give horses, burros and anything with horns room, and never feed them.
- Stay on trail. Desert crust and mountain soil take decades to heal.
