Mescal Mosey
Chuckwagon north to lower Long Canyon, then the Mescal ledge traverse back to the car.
Your timesno timed runs yet
Ride mode times every run on its own: the clock starts when you roll out of the start and stops at the finish, with splits at each marked spot. Leave Ride mode on between laps and it re-arms when you're back at the start. Times stay on this phone.

Getting there

Long Canyon Rd off Boynton Pass Rd, Sedona, AZ 86336
- A Red Rock Pass ($5 a day, $15 a week, $20 a year) or an America the Beautiful pass is required to park here; buy it at the kiosk, the Red Rock Ranger District Visitor Center or Recreation.gov (Coconino NF, checked Oct 9, 2026).
- Start and finish are the same spot. Follow the cue sheet and the arrows on the map.

Know before you go
- Only the lower part of Long Canyon is open to bikes. The upper canyon is Red Rock-Secret Mountain Wilderness, closed to bikes by law, so turn off at the Mescal connector as the cue sheet says.
- Mescal has a narrow ledge section with a drop on one side. Walk it if in doubt; there is no shame on that cliff.
- Starts with a short stretch on Long Canyon Road. Watch for cars.
- Red Rock Ranger District trails are shared with hikers and horses, and many were hit by erosion after recent wildfires (Coconino NF). Expect rough, washed-out spots.
Ride smart
- Water: plan on about 1 L for this ride. There's none on the trail.
- Signal is spotty. Tell someone your route and your time back.
- Emergency: call 911 and say "Mescal Mosey ride, parked at Mescal Trailhead, Sedona, Arizona", plus the coordinates from Locate me.
- Wildlife: give horses, burros and anything with horns room, and never feed them.
- Stay on trail. Desert crust and mountain soil take decades to heal.
