Know before you go

  • Longest ride here. Upper Deck has a few short rocky spots and some ridge riding with big valley views; the rest is mostly smooth desert tread.
  • The south end gets within a few hundred yards of Blue Diamond Road (SR 160) but never crosses it.
  • Riddle of Steel is one-way eastbound (downhill). The real climbs are Gypsum Grind near SR 160 and Blombi; Domingo is the reward in between.
  • Four-plus hours of sun with no shade or bailout water. Cool months only, or a very early start.
  • Skips Happy Ending on purpose: Trailforks (checked Oct 8, 2026) lists it as downhill-only and double black.

Ride smart

  • Water: plan on about 3 L for this ride. There's none on the trail.
  • Signal is spotty. Tell someone your route and your time back.
  • Emergency: call 911 and say "Long Riddle ride, parked at Mesa Park, West Summerlin / Bear's Best", plus the coordinates from Locate me.
  • Wildlife: give horses, burros and anything with horns room, and never feed them.
  • Stay on trail. Desert crust and mountain soil take decades to heal.
