Getting there
Park at Cottonwood Valley Trailhead (south)
South side of NV-160, about 5.9 mi west of the NV-159 junction. Turn left onto dirt Cottonwood Valley Road; the lot is about 200 yards in.
- Large dirt BLM lot with a vault toilet. No fee. The left turn off NV-160 is fast traffic; use the slow-vehicle turnout.
- Start and finish are the same spot. Follow the cue sheet and the arrows on the map.

Know before you go
- Counterclockwise as mapped: a steady 3 mi dirt-road climb, a dip down Dead Horse Loop Southwest, then Bonnie & Clyde gains back gently before Dead Horse Loop and the 3 mile descent home.
- Bonnie & Clyde is the least-ridden corner of the system. A few hundred yards of it braid with Cottonwood Pass Road; keep the GPX open where the cue sheet flips between trail and road.
- 3 Mile Smile is downhill-primary. Ride it northbound only, and expect climbers on Dead Horse Loop.
- No shade and the lot is the only toilet. Legal basis: BLM-designated Cottonwood Valley system, outside wilderness and the Scenic Loop fee area.
Ride smart
- Water: plan on about 2 L for this ride. There's none on the trail.
- Signal is spotty. Tell someone your route and your time back.
- Emergency: call 911 and say "Getaway ride, parked at Cottonwood Valley Trailhead (south), Blue Diamond / Cottonwood Valley", plus the coordinates from Locate me.
- Wildlife: give horses, burros and anything with horns room, and never feed them.
- Stay on trail. Desert crust and mountain soil take decades to heal.
